Upon rising

In the center of the crescent window
whence light falls
the moon is a paring
curled in solitude
on a whisperless sea.

  1. oh that draws me in
from the edge of the deep forest
    where i have wandered
    and run with the deer
    slept with rabbits
    to linger now
    here
    motionless and wordless
    at the moon garden …

    i’ve brought a shiny pebble
i found in a quiet stream
and carried in a pocket for moons of days
to offer at the edge of the swirled path
around the magic stones set here
and the flowers around the fountain …

i turn quietly four times in a sacred dance
    under the stars
lean against the fountain at the center of the world
    for twelve breaths
    then slip softly away
following a sweet fragrance wafted by dreams …
